Message manifolds would not be justified in the old HP per $ calc, at least in my book.

Plus, they are very expensive to rebuild if you can find someone to do it.

BUT their main plus is that they are bolt on, vs the headache of installing TD05 with turbo supports, and exhaust piping to reroute the wastegates back into the exhaust. And the SS cracking issues.
